Hoggard beats Topsail 56-21, clinches top seed in CCC tournament

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — It was only a matter of time, but Wednesday was when Hoggard girls basketball claimed the top seed in next week’s Carolina Coast Conference tournament following a 56-21 home win over Topsail.

The Vikings also clinch the best regular season record in the CCC as a result.

“It’s great, we’ve done it for five years in a row now,” senior A.K. Chance said. “We just don’t want to get content with where we’re at. It’s important to us to just keep the tradition going. Our goal is not conference champs, it’s undefeated conference champs. We got one more game to go. Starting tomorrow at practice, we’re going to prepare for Ashley, then prepare for the conference tournament and then going into playoffs.”

Chance was also recognized after the game for her accomplishment of grabbing 500 career rebounds.
