The Novant Health Foundation distributed 30-thousand bouquets of flowers
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Another gesture of love is flowers! In celebration of valentine’s day, The Novant Health Foundation distributed 30-thousand bouquets of flowers to hospital patients and health care workers across Novant Health Facilities throughout North and South Carolina.
Doctor Kathleen Young is the Director of Behavioral Health for Novant Health Family Medicine in Wilmington. She says –whenever someone feels appreciated and connected…it stimulates chemicals in the brain in a positive way. There are different stimulants that play a role in how we feel whenever we receive a gift or a surprise!
“So it oxytocin that psych-connection chemical and so that’s what helps with the connection piece. Serotonin is good for our moods. Dopamine is really about the anticipation and the reward of getting something…I am sure there were lots of dopamine heads going around because of all the surprises that they got with those flowers,” said Dr. Young.
The flowers were donated by North Carolina based Food Lion.
