New Chief Health and Human Services Officer for New Hanover County announced

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Health and Human Services Board has named a new Chief Health and Human Services Officer.
Tonya Jackson will assume the Chief Health and Human Service Officer role immediately.
Jackson joined New Hanover County in 2017 as Assistant Social Services Director and since December of 2020 has served as Social Services Director.
Before joining New Hanover County, she served as a manager for Brunswick County Social Services, where she also managed the county’s Public Housing Agency. Prior to that, she spent 15 years with Guilford County Social Services, serving as a program manager in the Adult Services and Economic Services divisions.
“Tonya is the right leader at the right time to accelerate the work across our entire health and human services portfolio,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “She has done incredible work for and across New Hanover County, and she understands who we are as an organization as well as anyone I work with. I’m thrilled that she will lead this critical area of county government.”
In her new role, Jackson will oversee public health, social services, and other human services programming in the county working alongside Health Director Jon Campbell.
“Serving the citizens of New Hanover County for nearly a decade has been a rewarding experience and I’m excited to continue providing that service in this new role,” Jackson said. “I’m grateful for the trust placed in me by county management and our HHS Board to lead our amazing staff at Health and Human Services.”
