Leland wine shop “optimistic” after Supreme Court invalidates sweeping tariffs

LELAND, NC (WWAY-TV) – It was the cornerstone of President Donald Trump’s economic agenda, but today the Supreme Court ruled most of his sweeping tariffs illegal.

Meanwhile, those tariff’s the president put into place have impact many small business owners including some in the Cape Fear.

At Bridgewater Wines and Dines, in Leland, a large part of their inventory is imported. The Supreme Court’s decision brought relief to many wine importers and distributors like Bridgewater.

Doug Zucker, owner of Bridgewater Wines and Dines said their team is optimistic but cautious about the Supreme Court’s decision.

“It’s good to see, hopefully that all this uncertainty is behind us and now there is little bit of closure, it was encouraging being in the wine business to see that this whole thing started with a wine distributor up in New York,” said Zucker.

V.O.S. Selections, a New York-based wine importer helped bring the case to the Supreme Court. Zucker said he’s hopeful the Supreme Court’s decision will help ease prices on their European wines.
