(Wilmington, NC) — The Laney High School Dance Team competed in the National Dance Alliance national dance competition in Orlando, Florida, where the team finished 8th in the nation for their hip hop routine.

The team started preparing for nationals in October after competing in a regional competition in Raleigh in January and winning first place.

In addition to finishing 8th in the nation for their hip hop routine, the team also competed in Pom and Game Day performances, finishing 16th out of 50 for Pom and 18th out of 43 for Game Day.

Senior captains Dilyn Day and Hailey Rosen say a part of choosing songs for their routines is looking at the teams’ strengths to help them stay confident while performing.

This was the team’s second year attending nationals.
