NCHSAA releases state playoff basketball brackets

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The North Carolina High School Athletic Association has released the state playoff brackets, previewing the upcoming postseason for all eight classifications of boys’ and girls’ high school basketball.
John T. Hoggard High School boys’ and girls’ teams are both top seeds in their respective tournaments, entering as the No. 1 seed in the East Region of the 8A classification. Both teams earned a first-round bye.
The only other area school in the 8A bracket is the sixth-seeded Emsley A. Laney High School Buccaneers. The Bucs will face 11th-seeded Enloe High School, with the winner advancing to play No. 3 Leesville Road High School.
On the girls’ side of the 8A bracket, Laney is the No. 7 seed and will take on No. 10 Apex High School in the first round. The winner will move on to face No. 2 Willow Spring High School.
In the 7A boys’ bracket, two area schools are represented. Fifth-seeded New Hanover High School received a first-round bye and will play the winner of No. 12 North Brunswick High School and No. 21 Cape Fear High School.
In the 7A girls’ bracket, three area schools are competing. No. 14 New Hanover will face No. 19 Fuquay-Varina High School, No. 10 Topsail High School will play No. 23 East Wake High School, and No. 15 Eugene Ashley High School will take on No. 18 Pine Forest High School.
