RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — State election officials report strong voter turnout across North Carolina as polls remain open on Election Day.

Tens of thousands of ballots have been cast statewide, with election teams closely monitoring polling locations since they opened Tuesday morning. Officials said monitoring will continue through poll closing and into the reporting period.

In Warren County, a precinct sustained fire damage Monday. Officials said a mobile voting unit was quickly dispatched, allowing voting to continue without disruption. State leaders expressed appreciation for the swift response from emergency management teams and local election partners.

In Cumberland County, officials said voters may experience minor delays in results reporting due to recent tabulation software updates that slow the printing of results tapes. The issue is isolated to Cumberland County and is not affecting other counties. No significant reporting delays are anticipated.

Early voting participation is up roughly 25% compared to the 2022 primary, according to state data. A total of 701,120 voters cast ballots during early voting this year’s primary, compared to 559,095 in 2022.

Including absentee ballots, 714,247 votes had been cast through Monday, marking a 23% increase over 2022 totals. Officials said some counties have already surpassed their 2024 primary early voting levels, signaling strong voter engagement.

Polls close at 7:30 p.m. statewide.
