Wilmington music program hopes to bring the magic of instruments at an affordable cost

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– Playing Violins, singing, and even dancing, that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what Linda Estep, one of the founders at Brooklyn Arts Music Academy does.

What makes it different from any other program? With NC school budget cuts affecting music programs in schools, The Brooklyn Arts Music Academy’s goal is to bring back the magic of music to young children.

“Music can bring us together like nothing else can,” said Estep.

With their monthly tuition being lower than 200 dollars, Estep says their goals are not just about learning and playing music, but learning important developmental skills too.

“For kids, language development is important. There are kids who really struggle speaking, and there are kids who don’t necessarily who don’t interact with their classmates, but music is a great way for that to happen because music is not a language based thing,” said Estep.

If it’s a simple process, how do they start?

“In September through October, we are just learning how to control our bodies and music works. Later on, we bring our harps, and our kids get hands-on experience with instruments, and that is important at such a young age.”

With Estep’s classroom being filled with toddlers learning music, she thinks learning at such a young age can be impactful.

“The younger they are when they are introduced to instruments, the likelihood of them playing an instrument increase, and impact it’s going to have on their life, is amazing,” said Estep.
