Burgaw mayor weighs in on need for more parking around town

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Recently, there’s been a buzz among some Burgaw residents about the need for more public parking in the downtown area.

In response to social media comments on the Burgaw Community Facebook page, Mayor Olivia Dawson posted a response on Tuesday.

In the post, Dawson said parking has been an issue she has worked to address for years, but there are unique challenges to constructing new parking spots in a historic downtown area.

Some residents have suggested a parking deck or designating specific areas for jury duty parking only.

Dawson said the town is weighing several options for improving access to downtown businesses, but that no further discussion of this issue is planned in the immediate future.
