Wilmington mayor, city council members to attend Washington conference

WILMINGTON, NC — Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo and five members of the city council plan to travel to Washington, DC later this month to attend a national conference for local government leaders.
According to a news release, the group will attend the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference scheduled for March 14–18. The event brings together mayors and city officials from across the country to discuss policy issues affecting municipalities and to meet with federal lawmakers and agencies.
City officials said the trip will also include meetings with members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation and federal officials to discuss issues affecting Wilmington.
The delegation plans to meet with U.S. Rep. David Rouzer and U.S. Sens. Thom Tillis and Ted Budd. They are also expected to meet with representatives from federal agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Highway Administration.
Saffo is also scheduled to participate in a separate meeting on the White House campus focused on federal emergency management reform, according to the release.
Officials said the meetings will focus on Wilmington’s priorities and challenges.
Those planning to attend the conference include Saffo and council members Salette Andrews, David Joyner, JC Lyle, Cassidy Santaguida and Chakema Clinton-Quintana.
