“Roar for Hope” event helps celebrate International Women’s Day

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– At Broomtail Brewing, over two dozen people went to the “Roar for Hope” event on Saturday. Attendees could help celebrate international women’s day by shopping at local female owned vendors, eating at local food trucks, and enjoying music by female singers.

The event celebrated international women’s day, but also to help support domestic violence victims. Ally Shaw, a domestic violence survivor, and the author of “Chasing Tigers in the Dark”, a memoir of her story, says its important for the community to be aware of what is going on around them, and help each other.

“The common goal is coming together to raise money and awareness for domestic violence,” said Shaw. “I think everybody knows someone who has experienced that, and I think its an opportunity to come together and help hurting humans.”

Each vendor pledged a certain amount of their earnings to The New Hanover County Domestic Violence Shelter.
