RIEGELWOOD, NC (WWAY) — Eastbound lanes of U.S. 74/76 are shut down as emergency crews respond to a multi-vehicle crash, according to Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Fire Rescue.

ADR said its units are on scene of the wreck and that the eastbound lanes remain closed while crews work to clear the area.

The agency said the current weather system has also caused multiple trees to fall nearby, creating additional hazards and slowing travel.

Firefighters, EMS and partner agencies are working to clear the roadway, treat patients and make the area safe.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible, use extreme caution on nearby roads and be patient as crews continue their work.

Officials are also urging motorists to slow down, stay alert and give emergency responders space to do their jobs.
