Laney takes down rival Ashley 7-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — In a battle of state runner-ups from over the past two seasons, Laney baseball picked up a 7-3 home win over Carolina Coast rival Ashley on Friday.
An Owen Gore sac fly that scored Jackson Noon opened the scoring in the bottom of the 1st.
The 5th was big for Laney as they plated four in that frame. Those included an RBI single from Gore and a Mason Nance sac fly that scored Gore.
“To come out this season and really have a great approach every game is what we’re looking for,” Gore said. “We had a great game tonight, well-rounded. We executed, but we definitely should have put more effort in. We had the energy up. There’s room to work. We got the whole season to get that back. Definitely great to get to get off to a jump on them this year and it’s awesome to see.”
