UNCW to play at Yale to open NIT play

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — For the first time in a quarter century, UNCW men’s basketball will take part in the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).

The Seahawks will open their playoff run at Yale on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Both teams go in with just six losses on the season.

UNCW is in the Winston-Salem region of the NIT bracket, which includes squads such as Wake Forest and Navy. Wilmington beat the latter this year by 30 points.

If the Seahawks advance past that the quarterfinals, they will go to Indianapolis for the semis and possible championship.

UNCW last appeared in the NIT back in 2001. This is their third overall appearance in the tournament.
