LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Blue Star Moms is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization made up of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians of individuals serving in the military, National Guard, or Reserves, as well as veterans. One of the group’s key initiatives is assembling and sending care packages—known as “Morale Booster Boxes”—to troops deployed overseas. These packages, filled with items like cookies, crackers, snacks, and personal hygiene products, are sent to both individuals and military units as a way to express community appreciation and support for active-duty service members
At its meeting on March 19, 2026, the John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68 presented a donation of $500 to benefit the Blue Star Mothers’ Morale Booster Boxes program. Bea Frost, Post Commander, and Jim McAvoy, First Vice Commander, made the presentation to Michelle Bunting, Chapter President. Mark Your Calendars for Community Blood Drive!
The John E. Jacobs American Legion Post 68, in conjunction with the American Red Cross and WWAY TV Channel 3, will host a blood drive on Friday, April 10. The event will be held from 12 to 5 PM, at WWAY, 1224 Magnolia Village Way, Leland, NC.
Every blood product collected is extremely important and eventually lifesaving. At the conclusion of a recent drive, more than 40 local donors responded to the urgent call for blood. This drive will collect both Power Red and Whole Blood units. Power Red donations typically take longer to obtain, but such donations are critical for treating trauma patients, newborns, providing emergency transfusions during birth, patients with sickle cell anemia, and others suffering from blood loss.
