Resignations, disputes leave Chadbourn council without town manager
CHADBOURN, N.C. (WWAY) — Turmoil continues within the Chadbourn Town Council following a series of resignations, disputes, and stalled meetings that have left the town without key leadership.
Video from the council’s Feb. 3 meeting shows all six members present, including Mayor Phillip Britt and Mayor Pro Tem Tony Jordan.
On Feb. 21, Jordan called a special meeting to discuss a personnel matter, but the session ended early after Britt left, citing procedural concerns.
During that same meeting, the town attorney resigned, followed by Town Manager Jason Robinson, who announced he would step down at the end of March, leaving the town without day-to-day administrative leadership.
Britt said he is hopeful enough council members will attend the next meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, April 7th, to conduct official business.
One of the items on the agenda includes naming an interim town manager.
“I think we will have enough for a quorum,” Britt said. “What I’m hearing from some of the stuff I’m hearing, I think we will have enough. The only reason I think that is because there’s somebody they want to put in the interim manager’s position.”
Beyond filling the vacancy, Britt said he hopes the council can continue its work on developing the town’s next fiscal year budget.
