DUPLIN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Duplin County man is celebrating a big lottery win after scratching his way to a $100,000 prize.

Loyd Hall, of Beulaville, said he couldn’t wait to share the news with his family after discovering he had won the top prize on a scratch-off ticket.

“I told my son and he thought I was joking,” Hall said with a laugh. “My daughter is the only one who believed me.”

Hall purchased the winning $100,000 Cash Payday ticket from J&N Grocery on Beulaville Highway in Richlands. He said he had to double-check the ticket to make sure the win was real.

“I had to look at it a couple times just to make sure,” Hall said.

Hall claimed his prize at lottery headquarters on Wednesday. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $72,018.

“I’m living the dream,” Hall said.

He said he plans to use the money to pay bills and complete projects around his home.

The $100,000 Cash Payday game debuted in March and initially featured 80 top prizes. According to the North Carolina Education Lottery, 71 of those $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed.

Officials said Duplin County has received more than $32 million in state grants funded by lottery proceeds to help renovate a high school.
