Freeman Park to temporarily close as beach nourishment project wraps up in Carolina Beach

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach has announced a temporary closure of Freeman Park as crews begin demobilization for the town’s 2026 beach nourishment project.
The park will be closed to visitors from Monday, April 20 through Wednesday, April 22, with plans to reopen on Thursday, April 23.
Officials say Norfolk Dredging, the project contractor, has completed sand placement and is now focused on removing equipment, including turbine engines at the Ocean Boulevard beach access and Freeman Park, as well as piping along the Central Business District shoreline.
The project is being carried out in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which, along with the contractor and the town, expressed appreciation for the community’s patience during the final phase of work.
Crews are expected to complete the removal of all equipment by the end of the month, marking the conclusion of the nourishment effort aimed at restoring and protecting Carolina Beach’s shoreline.
