A hero’s welcome as Veterans return to Wilmington after trip to Washington, D.C.

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — American patriotism was on full display at the Aero Center Wilmington on Saturday evening.

Hundreds of families, friends, and even strangers welcomed back 82 veterans who had traveled to Washington, D.C., for the day as part of the “Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area.”

People waved American flags, posters, and signs as music played along the pathway to greet the veterans who served in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

“It’s been great, and it’s an honor,” said one veteran. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Also on the flight was a group of 183 veterans, guardians, medical team members, and support volunteers who helped ensure everything went smoothly.
