Wilmington police release new details following deadly stabbing near Independence Boulevard

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police have charged a suspect following a deadly stabbing Wednesday afternoon near Independence Boulevard.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, the victim has been identified as 47-year-old Anthony Todd Lane of Wilmington. He was taken to Novant New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Police say the stabbing happened in a wooded area on the north side of Independence Boulevard. Investigators say Lane then walked onto Independence Mall property seeking help. Police say no crime occurred on mall property.

During the investigation, officers located evidence in the roadway, which required temporary road closures and caused traffic disruptions during peak travel hours.

Following an investigation, officers arrested 35-year-old David Eugene Bryan Jr. of Wilmington. He is charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the New Hanover County Detention Facility without bond.
