Carolina Beach holds its first “Wings Over Carolina Beach Air Show”

CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. (WWAY)– Headed to the beach this weekend? Make sure to look up after taking a swim, as a special air show kicked off on Friday.

It wasn’t engine failure, but brave stunts performed at the “Wings Over Carolina Beach Air Show”. Crowds can be seen from both ends of Carolina Beach to watch planes do stunts, make hearts, and even fly upside down.

The event was free, but visitors could contribute to the ILM Aerospace Foundation, which helped put on the airshow.

Executive Director Jeff Bourk says he hopes it helps inspire the next generation of aviators.

“All the money that is raised and donated here will go to helping kids in our community learn about jobs in aviation, whether they are pilots, mechanics, air traffic controller personnel, or airport management,” said Bourk. “That is what you are supporting if you make a donation to ILM Aerospace Foundation today or tomorrow.”

The airshow will continue on Saturday at Carolina Beach, starting at 2 PM.
