LELAND, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Leland is inviting residents to get prepared for hurricane season at its sixth annual Hurricane Expo, with WWAY among the organizations participating.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Leland Cultural Arts Center.

Town officials say the expo offers an opportunity for the community to connect with local, state and federal experts and gather information on storm preparedness ahead of the upcoming hurricane season. WWAY’s Chief Meteorologist Lee Haywood, along with Meteorologists Jason Korver and Charles McKeller will be in attendance.

Attendees can speak with multiple agencies, pick up a copy of the Town of Leland’s official Hurricane Guide, available in English and Spanish, and enter for a chance to win a rain barrel.

Participating town departments include Fire, Police, Public Works, and Planning and Inspections. Additional organizations expected to attend include Brunswick County Emergency Management, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, the National Weather Service, Legal Aid of North Carolina, the American Red Cross, North Carolina Cooperative Extension, North Carolina Department of Insurance, Brunswick Family Assistance, WARM, Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation, Trillium Health Resources, H2GO, and WWAY.
