Local designer turns passion for interiors into storytelling through space

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — Interior design is often about more than what people see when they walk into a room — it is also about how the space makes them feel.

For local interior designer Lynne Jones of LJ Design Studio, that idea became the foundation of a career that began in 2015 and has since grown into a passion for creating spaces that reflect the people who use them.

“I started interior design in 2015… and I completely fell in love with it,” Jones said.

What began as a leap of faith quickly turned into a creative calling rooted in storytelling through design.

“What really pulled me into design was knowing that I could tell people’s stories through their space… and that’s my heart,” she said.

Her design philosophy focuses on creating environments that feel warm, calming and intentional. She described her style as “modern with a touch of chic,” while incorporating elements of softness, texture and culture into each project.

“I love bringing warmth, peace, and even a little bit of culture into every space,” Jones said.

According to Jones, color is often one of the first elements she considers when designing a room.

“The first thing I look for is color… I love adding a pop, and I really love curves and softness in a space,” she said.

One of those projects includes the Cape Fear Memorial Foundation, where Jones said the vision centered on creating a warm and calming atmosphere for visitors.

“The vision here was Scandinavian chic… warm, calming, and a place where people can feel at home,” Jones said.

She said the lobby area became one of her favorite parts of the design because of the way it creates an immediate sense of comfort.

“I would say the lobby… it’s inviting, it pulls people in, and it creates a calming experience right away,” she said.

For Jones, successful interior design is about balancing beauty with purpose — creating spaces that not only look appealing, but also leave people feeling at ease the moment they enter.
