Wilmington Police arrest South Carolina man on multiple drug charges

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police Department officers arrested a South Carolina man Thursday morning after responding to a reported altercation and discovering multiple controlled substances inside a vehicle.

According to police, officers responded around 9:50 a.m. on May 7 to the 1500 block of South 11th Street following reports of several individuals involved in a disturbance.

When officers arrived, they made contact with 22-year-old Nathaniel Harris, who was seated inside a nearby vehicle. Police said officers observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle, including a crack pipe.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led officers to discover a partially open safe containing narcotics. Investigators reported finding fentanyl, crack cocaine, 23 dosage units of amphetamine, more than 190 dosage units of alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, and other controlled substances.

Harris faces multiple charges, including possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance; felony possession of cocaine; felony possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances; maintaining a vehicle for keeping or selling controlled substances; misdemeanor possession of Schedule III and Schedule IV controlled substances; and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said the investigation remains active.

Harris is currently being held at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.
