WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — During Nurse Appreciation Week, officials at the University of North Carolina Wilmington are recognizing the next generation of health care workers training in the Cape Fear region.

UNCW Chancellor Aswani Volety said the university’s nursing program is preparing students with the hands-on training and experience needed to serve communities across southeastern North Carolina and beyond.

Volety said nursing students are expected to play a major role in strengthening the future health care workforce as demand for medical professionals continues to grow across the region.

“Today’s nursing students are tomorrow’s frontline caregivers. In my opinion, recognizing them and the faculty who educate them is about honoring their determination, hard work, and commitment to helping others,” said Volety.

The chancellor also expressed gratitude for the dedication shown by nursing students and faculty members who continue caring for others and serving the community.
