Canines for Service hosts placement ceremony for veterans
WILMINGTON (NC) — Canines for Service hosted a client placement ceremony in Wilmington to celebrate the life-changing partnership between newly paired veterans.
The ceremony honored Air Force veteran Jennifer with her newly placed service dog, Santos, and Navy veteran Michelle with her newly placed service dog, Legion.
Canines for Service says the ceremony marks a significant milestone in each veteran’s journey toward greater independence, confidence, and quality of life through the support of highly trained service dogs.
“These are two women who have been through a lot and taking care of a lot of people.” says Reagan Stauffer, the training program’s manager. “It’s a good moment to see them taking this step to take care of themselves and push their abilities with the disability they have through service so having these dogs is a way to push their independence.”
Stauffer says she’s honored to have trained Santos and Legion through the organization’s nationally recognized program.
