Southport announces temporary road closure for weather tower installation
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The City of Southport has announced a temporary road closure on E. Bay Street to accommodate the installation of a new weather tower.
E. Bay St. between S. Davis St. and S. Atlantic Ave. will be closed to traffic on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, while a crane is used to safely lift and install the structure.
Officials say the closure is necessary to ensure public safety during the operation and to allow crews to complete the installation efficiently.
Despite the road closure, Waterfront Park parking along Bay Street will remain open to visitors.
To help manage traffic flow during the work, motorists will be encouraged to make a right turn onto E. Bay St., reducing congestion in the immediate area.
The Town of Southport is urging residents and visitors to use caution, follow posted detours and traffic directions, and allow extra time for travel while the project is underway.
