The new Associate of Applied Science degree program is designed to prepare students for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and related scientific fields through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory training.
According to the college, students in the program will learn laboratory procedures, biomanufacturing processes, quality control practices, and industry-standard technologies used in the production of biological products and pharmaceuticals.
“Biotechnology is one of the fastest-growing industries in our region and state,” said Jim Morton. “This new program gives students an affordable and accessible pathway into high-paying, high-demand careers while helping meet the workforce needs of local and regional employers.”
College officials say the curriculum is designed to reflect real-world industry environments, allowing students to gain practical experience that aligns with current workforce expectations.
Graduates of the program may pursue careers in pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology production facilities, chemical analysis laboratories, quality assurance, and research support.
The launch comes as North Carolina continues to see significant growth in biotechnology and life sciences industries, particularly across the southeastern part of the state.
