WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The YMCA of Southeastern North Carolina brought together community leaders, elected officials, donors, and partners on Friday for its 12th annual Breakfast for Community, held at the Nir Family YMCA.

The event serves as the organization’s signature Annual Giving Campaign fundraiser, supporting programs and services that expand access to YMCA memberships, youth sports, summer camps, swim lessons, wellness initiatives, and other community programs across southeastern North Carolina.

This year’s keynote speaker was Jeff Bourk, director of Wilmington International Airport, who spoke about regional growth and future expansion plans for the airport. Bourk highlighted ongoing development trends across southeastern North Carolina and the increasing demand for infrastructure to support the area’s rapid growth.

Organizers said the event raised more than $249,000 to support the YMCA’s Annual Giving Campaign. Those funds will help provide income-based membership assistance, program scholarships, and essential services aimed at ensuring individuals and families can access YMCA resources regardless of financial circumstances.

YMCA officials said the funds will directly benefit children, families, seniors, and individuals throughout the region, helping sustain and expand programming throughout the year.
