Monday marks National Missing Children’s Day
LELAND, NC (WWAY)–Every year, more than 300,000 children are reported missing across the United States, and Sunday marks a day dedicated to honoring those who have still not been found.
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, dozens of missing children cases remain active in North Carolina.
Monica Caison, founder and executive director of the CUE Center for Missing Persons, helps lead searches for missing people while also supporting families throughout the process. She said the National Missing Children’s Day serves as an important reminder to keep attention focused on missing loved ones and ongoing cases.
“We encourage our families to keep campaigning,” Caison said. “A missing person or child case is really an awareness campaign. You have to keep putting their picture and their story out there.”
Caison said families and communities can help raise awareness by creating posters, holding vigils, and speaking with local media outlets to keep missing persons cases in the public eye.
