National Donut Day brings sweet deals to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — National Donut Day is here, and businesses across the country — including several in and around Wilmington — are celebrating with free treats and special promotions.
Observed annually on the first Friday in June, National Donut Day was established in 1938 by The Salvation Army to honor the “Donut Lassies,” volunteers who served doughnuts and other refreshments to soldiers during World War I.
This year, national chains and local favorites alike are offering discounts and giveaways for doughnut enthusiasts looking to indulge.
At Dunkin’, customers can receive a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage on Friday, June 5.
Sheetz is extending its celebration beyond a single day. Customers can receive one free doughnut with any food or beverage purchase of $5 or more from June 5 through June 9.
Krispy Kreme is offering guests a free doughnut of their choice on National Donut Day, no purchase necessary. The company is also featuring a special deal on its signature Original Glazed dozen, allowing customers to purchase a second dozen for $2 when they buy any dozen at participating locations.
Locally, Round Bagels + Donuts is celebrating with a buy-two-get-one-free doughnut special on June 5.
Meanwhile, Brooklyn Cafe in Wilmington’s Brooklyn Arts District is kicking off the weekend with a buy-one-get-one-free doughnut promotion from 8 a.m. to noon Friday.
Many promotions are available while supplies last and may vary by location.
