Natural gas bills expected to drop for North Carolina Piedmont customers

CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Piedmont Natural Gas says it has lowered rates for its North Carolina customers for the fourth time this year, a change the company says will reduce the average residential customer’s annual bill by about $54.
The latest rate decrease took effect June 1 and is expected to lower the average residential bill by approximately 4.35%, according to the company.
Piedmont said it also reduced rates in January, February and April. Combined, the company says the four rate decreases in 2026 will lower the average residential customer’s bill by about 8%, or roughly $100 per year.
Customers are expected to begin seeing the latest reduction reflected on June bills, with the full impact appearing in future billing cycles.
The company said the reductions are tied to efforts to lower operating costs and pass those savings on to customers.
All rate changes for North Carolina customers must be reviewed and approved by the North Carolina Utilities Commission.
“We know rising costs are top of mind for our customers, and Piedmont actively looks for every opportunity to keep natural gas service as affordable as possible while continuing to provide the safe and reliable service our customers and communities depend on every day,” Piedmont Natural Gas President Emily Henson said in a statement.
In addition to the rate decreases, Piedmont said customers have access to programs designed to help manage energy costs, including equal payment plans, payment assistance options and energy-saving resources.
Piedmont Natural Gas serves customers across North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
