Wilmington Police to conduct critical incident training exercise at local church

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department will conduct a critical incident training exercise on Thursday, June 18, at Cape Fear Free Will Baptist Church as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen officer preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
The training is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the church, located at 5350 Holly Tree Road in Wilmington.
According to the department, officers will participate in realistic, scenario-based exercises designed to improve coordination, communication and response tactics during critical incidents and other high-risk situations.
Residents and motorists in the area may notice an increased law enforcement presence throughout the day, including police vehicles and officers participating in the training.
Officials said portions of the exercise may involve simulated emergency scenarios that could appear unusual to passersby. However, the department emphasized that the activity is strictly a training exercise and that there is no threat to the public.
The training is part of the department’s ongoing commitment to ensuring officers are prepared to respond effectively during emergency situations while working alongside community partners and public safety agencies.
