N.C. Forest Service annual tree seedling sale begins July 1

RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — North Carolinians looking to plant trees on their property will soon be able to order tree seedlings through the N.C. Forest Service’s annual seedling sale.
The N.C. Forest Service announced it will begin accepting orders on July 1 for its Nursery Program, which produces an average of 10 million seedlings each year and offers more than 40 tree species.
According to the agency, the program produces enough native and genetically improved seedlings to plant roughly 18,700 acres annually.
Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said the program provides affordable tree seedlings suited to North Carolina’s diverse forestlands and offers quantities ranging from as few as 10 seedlings to several thousand.
“Our nursery program continues to provide affordable native tree seedlings that are geographically suitable for the state’s diverse forestlands,” Troxler said in a release. “By offering seedlings in different quantities, the program can help customers of all sizes whether the need is as few as 10 seedlings, or as many as several thousand.”
The program offers both quality conifer and hardwood seedlings. Genetically improved stock is available for Fraser fir, loblolly pine, longleaf pine, shortleaf pine, Eastern white pine and Virginia pine. The N.C. Forest Service said those seedlings offer improved characteristics such as growth, disease resistance and tree form.
Seedlings can be ordered online beginning July 1. Orders can also be placed by phone at 1-888-NCTREES (1-888-628-7337) or 919-731-7988, or by mail using the order form included in the FY26-27 Nursery Seedling Catalog.
A user-friendly online catalog will soon be available. The catalog includes information about available species, quantities, pricing and recommended planting locations. Printed catalogs will be available at local N.C. Forest Service offices beginning in July.
Most containerized seedlings are available from November through March, while most bare-root seedlings are available from January through March.
