TABOR CITY, NC (WWAY)– A man wanted on multiple felony charges was taken into custody after an alleged attempted getaway led detectives to recover suspected narcotics and stolen property, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 9, 2026, detectives with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division located Brian Keith Misenheimer in Tabor City and attempted to serve an outstanding felony warrant.

Authorities said Misenheimer allegedly attempted to flee in a vehicle as detectives approached. During the attempted escape, the vehicle reportedly drove over a curb and came to rest near a detective. Misenheimer allegedly continued trying to drive away, but the vehicle became stuck and was unable to continue.

Detectives then took Misenheimer and his passenger, Jerome Boyd Hemingway, into custody without further incident.

A records check revealed Hemingway also had multiple outstanding warrants, according to officials.

During a search of the vehicle, detectives recovered suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and packages of steak that investigators identified as stolen from the Food Lion in Tabor City. The Sheriff’s Office said the theft had not yet been discovered or reported by the business when the items were recovered.

Misenheimer faces the following charges:

  • Three counts of Breaking and Entering
  • Three counts of Larceny After Breaking and Entering
  • Felony Larceny
  • Felony Possession of Cocaine
  • Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
  • Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official with a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor Larceny
  • Second-Degree Trespass

Misenheimer was given a $175,000 secured bond.

Hemingway was served with one count of Failure to Appear on a Felony charge and three counts of Failure to Appear on Misdemeanor charges. He received a $25,000 secured bond.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said the arrests resulted in the recovery of suspected narcotics and stolen property connected to an additional crime that had not yet been reported.

“Everyone is presumed to be innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law,” the Sheriff’s Office stated. “The information contained in this post is not intended to be an expression of opinion regarding guilt.”
