BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Drivers in Brunswick County will have an extra day before a major traffic pattern change takes effect on N.C. 211.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced the planned traffic shift between N.C. 133 (Long Beach Road) and Woodedge Way has been postponed due to weather. The new traffic pattern is now expected to begin on the evening of Friday, July 17, weather permitting.

Once the shift is in place, all traffic will move onto the newly constructed future westbound lanes of N.C. 211.

Westbound drivers will use a new ramp and traffic signal to access N.C. 906 (Midway Road/Middleton Boulevard) and will no longer use the existing traffic signal. Eastbound traffic will continue using the current signal to reach N.C. 906.

Following the traffic shift, the Regency Crossing entrance to St. James will be closed for approximately 30 days. Drivers traveling within St. James should use the St. James Drive entrance during the closure.

Temporary, signed access points will remain available for homes and businesses located:

  • Between Pinetop Drive and Pine Plantation Parkway.
  • Near West Trace Drive and N.C. 133.

NCDOT is reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert and use caution while traveling through the work zone.

Drivers can check current traffic conditions before traveling by visiting DriveNC.gov.

Officials noted that additional rain or thunderstorms could result in further delays to the traffic shift.
