Topsail 12U all-stars make history, punch ticket to national tournament

TOPSAIL, NC (WWAY) — The Topsail All Stars 12U Ozone District 1 baseball team is making history after earning a spot in the Dixie Youth/Diamond Youth Baseball World Series — the first time a Topsail team has advanced to represent North Carolina on the national stage.
The team completed an impressive postseason run, going undefeated through both the district and state tournaments to secure its place in the World Series.
The Topsail 12U All-Stars preformed well in district play in Richlands, winning all four games.
The team continued that success at the state level in Mount Pleasant, North Carolina, where the team won five games to claim the state championship.
The team will now travel to Mississippi on July 30 to compete in the Dixie Youth/Diamond Youth Baseball World Series.
The Topsail All-Stars have been led by head coach, Damien Buchanan, along with assistant coaches, Lee Thornton and Will Cannady.
Throughout district and state tournament play, the team’s pitching and defense helped set them apart. Topsail allowed just 11 total runs across all tournament games during its undefeated run.
The players are part of the Topsail Baseball Club and represent the organization’s 12U All-Star team.
As they prepare for the World Series, the team is carrying the support of the Topsail community and the pride of making history for the program.
For the players, coaches and families involved, the trip to Mississippi represents more than a tournament appearance, it marks a milestone for Topsail baseball.
