New indoor golf and social venue coming to Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — A locally owned indoor golf and entertainment venue is expanding into Brunswick County with the opening of its second location later this month.
Backspin Social will celebrate the opening of its new Leland location with a three-day grand opening event from Friday, July 24, through Sunday, July 26.
The new venue is located at 9600 Ploof Road SE, Suite 7, in the former Mankind Brewing and MOBA space. The approximately 5,500-square-foot building has been renovated into an indoor golf and social venue featuring oversized golf simulator bays, a bar and lounge, sports viewing areas and space for private events and community gatherings.
Backspin Social first opened in Wilmington in October 2023. Owners Mike and Cat Wilson say the Leland location is designed to appeal to golfers and non-golfers alike.
“Backspin began with my love of golf, but it has grown into something much broader: a place where people can be active, spend time together, and feel part of a community,” founder Mike Wilson said. “The Leland layout gives the golf bays more separation from the bar and social area, which helps us welcome people who may not golf at all.”
The new location will initially feature three oversized indoor golf simulator bays, with plans to add a fourth in the near future. According to the owners, the bays are approximately 16 feet wide by 16 feet deep and are among the largest indoor golf simulator setups in the area.
In addition to golf simulators, both the Wilmington and Leland locations will offer golf leagues, memberships, private event rentals and community programming.
Co-owner Cat Wilson said Leland’s growing business community made it a natural fit for expansion.
“Leland has an eager, entrepreneurial energy that made it feel like the right place for our second location,” Wilson said. “We are excited to create a space that celebrates local talent, from food and beer to musicians and community-led workshops, while giving golfers and non-golfers a place to unwind and connect through activity.”
The Leland location is expected to employ four to six bartenders and will be managed by a general manager overseeing both locations.
The grand opening celebration will run from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day and is open to the public. No ticket or RSVP is required, although reservations are encouraged for golf simulator bays.
The weekend will feature live music, local food trucks, a closest-to-the-pin competition, raffles, giveaways and drink specials. Scheduled performers include Bill Marquardt on Friday, Josh Starkey on Saturday and Amanda Grace on Sunday.
Representatives from the North Brunswick Chamber of Commerce are also expected to participate in the grand opening festivities on July 24.
