North Carolina gas prices dip slightly, remain well above year-ago levels
RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Average gasoline prices in North Carolina fell slightly over the past week, though drivers are still paying significantly more than they were a year ago, according to new data from GasBuddy.
GasBuddy’s weekly survey of more than 6,000 gas stations found the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in North Carolina was $3.77 on Monday, down 1.3 cents from a week earlier.
Despite the weekly decline, prices remain 26.8 cents higher than a month ago and 91.5 cents higher than this time last year, according to the report.
GasBuddy said prices across North Carolina ranged from $3.39 per gallon at the state’s least expensive station to $4.99 per gallon at the most expensive, a difference of $1.60.
Among North Carolina’s larger metropolitan areas, average prices were $3.68 in the Fayetteville area, $3.81 in the Charlotte area and $3.79 in the Greensboro area.
Nationally, the average price of gasoline fell 0.8 cents over the past week to $4.05 per gallon, while the average price of diesel increased 7.1 cents to $5.33 per gallon.
Patrick De Haan, GasBuddy’s head of petroleum analysis, said gasoline prices fluctuated last week as oil markets reacted to geopolitical developments, including tensions in the Middle East and attacks on Russian oil infrastructure.
According to De Haan, the national average could reach its highest level ever recorded for this point in the calendar year later this week, depending on market conditions.
