Cameron Art Museum announces free arts program for veterans, military families

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cameron Art Museum is expanding its programming for veterans, active-duty military personnel and military families with a series of free arts-based workshops and events.
The upcoming programs include visual art, creative writing, movement, film and performance experiences designed to promote creativity, reflection, and community. Participants will have opportunities to take introductory clay and pottery classes, attend movement and storytelling sessions with Black Box Dance Theatre, and join an intergenerational family workshop inspired by the history of the museum’s grounds.
The museum’s Veterans Programs are supported in part by Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the U.S. Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs. Community engagement grants are administered by Mid-America Arts Alliance.
As the steward of the historic Battle of Forks Road site, Cameron Art Museum says the programs reflect its commitment to preserving the stories of those who have served while using the arts to foster connection and well-being.
Museum officials say research shows participation in the arts can help reduce stress and anxiety while supporting the transition from military to civilian life.
