Wawa to open second New Hanover County location in Wilmington

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Wawa will open its second New Hanover County location Thursday as the convenience store chain continues its expansion in North Carolina.

The new store, located at 2402 S. 17th St. in Wilmington, will open at 8 a.m. Thursday. It follows the opening of Wawa’s first Wilmington location on Carolina Beach Road in May.

As part of Thursday’s grand opening, the first 250 customers will be eligible to receive free T-shirts while supplies lasts. The company is also offering free hot coffee through Aug. 16.

A ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. featuring remarks, a ribbon-cutting and a “Hoagies for Heroes” competition between local first responders.

The company says the new store will employ an average of 35 people.

Wawa plans to open six to eight stores each year in North Carolina over the next eight to 10 years, with a goal of eventually operating about 90 locations across the state. The company estimates its statewide expansion will create more than 3,000 jobs.
