WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County man is facing charges after authorities say he assaulted another person with a metal baseball bat earlier this month.

According to court records, 63-year-old Aaron Bordeaux was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 12, and charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He is also charged as a habitual felon.

Investigators allege the incident occurred on Aug. 8. An arrest warrant states Bordeaux “unlawfully and willfully” assaulted the victim with a metal baseball bat by striking the person in the back and forearm.

Jail records show Bordeaux was booked into custody Wednesday evening by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. He was later released the same night after posting a $2,500 surety bond on the assault charge. The habitual felon charge was listed with an unsecured bond.

No additional details about the victim’s condition or the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault have been released.

The case will proceed through the Columbus County court system.
