36-year-old Whiteville man faces multiple sex offense charges involving child
WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — A 36-year-old Whiteville man is facing multiple felony sex offense charges involving a child under 13, according to Columbus County court records.
Brenton Allen Britt was arrested Aug. 25 following an investigation by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
Britt faces charges in two separate criminal cases, both filed Aug. 24.
In one case, Britt is charged with:
- Four counts of second-degree forcible sex offense
- Four counts of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult
- Two counts of first-degree statutory sex offense
The alleged offenses in that case are listed as occurring between Feb. 1, 2024, and Feb. 1, 2025.
In a second case, Britt faces:
- One count of first-degree statutory sex offense
- Four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child
The offenses in the second case are listed as occurring Feb. 2, 2024.
Court records show Britt was assigned a public defender on Aug. 26.
Britt is scheduled for a probable cause hearing Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. in Columbus County Courthouse.
