Boil water advisory issued for part of Myrtle Grove Road area
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has issued an emergency boil water advisory for part of the Myrtle Grove Road area following a water main break.
The advisory took effect immediately Wednesday, Aug. 26, and impacts approximately 400 CFPUA customers.
The affected areas include:
- The 7500 to 7800 blocks of Myrtle Grove Road
- Johns Creek Road
- Summer Hideaway
- East Seaview Road
- The Tidal Walk community
- McQuillan Drive
- Lehigh Road
- Cypress Village
- Gabriel Street
- Mitchell Court
- The 6700 and 7000 blocks of Carolina Beach Road
CFPUA crews are repairing the water main break. Customers may experience temporary water service disruptions, including periods of low or no water pressure, while the work is underway.
CFPUA says low or no pressure can increase the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into the water system.
What customers should do
People in the affected area should boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before consuming it. Customers can also use bottled water as an alternative.
The advisory applies to water used for:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Making ice
- Preparing food
- Washing fruits and vegetables
- Giving water to pets
- Preparing baby formula
Customers do not need to boil water before showering or bathing.
CFPUA laboratory staff will test the water before the advisory is lifted to ensure it is safe to drink.
CFPUA says the advisory will be updated once it has been lifted.
