Pender County seeks input on new Long Creek Community Park playground

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Pender County is inviting residents to help shape the design of a new playground at Long Creek Community Park in Rocky Point.

A drop-in public input session will be held Thursday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Long Creek Community Park, located at 23280 N.C. Highway 210 on the former site of the Long Creek-Grady School.

Pender County recently received an appropriation from the North Carolina General Assembly to fund installation of the playground. The project will mark the first major amenity planned for the community park.

Residents will have an opportunity to provide input on playground features, accessibility, age-appropriate play elements and other considerations that will help guide the project’s design.

The county is also seeking feedback on the long-term vision for Long Creek Community Park. That input could help guide future planning efforts, including a potential application to the North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant program.

Potential future park amenities could include walking trails, restrooms, picnic shelters, open green space, fitness areas and other recreational features identified by the community.

“This playground is an exciting investment in our community, and we want the people who will use it to help shape it,” Parks and Recreation Director Zach White said. “We encourage families, neighbors, and community members to attend the public input session and share their ideas so we can create a playground and park that reflects the needs and priorities of our citizens for years to come.”
