The Healing Place to hold candlelight vigil during National Recovery Month

Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — The Healing Place of New Hanover County will hold its annual “A Thousand Candles” vigil later this month to remember people who have died from overdoses and support those affected by addiction.

The candlelight vigil is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 17, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at The Healing Place, located at 1000 Medical Center Drive in Wilmington.

Organizers say the event will bring together people in recovery, families, friends and other community members to honor lives lost and support people continuing through recovery.

Candles will be provided, and the event is open to the public.

“Each candle represents a person whose life held meaning — a family member or friend who was loved and is still remembered today,” said Trish Nicholson, director of development at The Healing Place.

The vigil is being held during National Recovery Month, which focuses on recovery from substance use and the people and organizations that support it.

The Healing Place provides recovery-focused services for people affected by addiction or homelessness.
