Man hit at North Kerr Avenue and Market Street dies from injuries

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A man has died from injuries he suffered after being struck by a vehicle in Wilmington last month, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Police said Clifford Smith was hit shortly before midnight on Aug. 19 at the intersection of North Kerr Avenue and Market Street.
Investigators said Smith was attempting to cross North Kerr Avenue from east to west and entered the roadway without activating the pedestrian crosswalk signal.
At the same time, police said a green left-turn arrow activated for vehicles traveling from Market Street onto North Kerr Avenue. Smith was struck by a vehicle while crossing.
WPD said it was notified by the Medical Examiner’s Office on Aug. 30 that Smith had died from his injuries.
Following an investigation by the department’s Traffic Unit, police said the driver involved will not face charges.
