UNCW women’s soccer remains unbeaten after scoreless draw with East Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — The UNCW women’s soccer team remains unbeaten after battling in-state rival East Carolina to a scoreless draw Thursday night.

The Seahawks entered the non-conference matchup with a 3-0-2 record and carried that momentum into the opening half.

UNCW controlled much of the offensive pressure, outshooting ECU 6-1 in the first 45 minutes while also earning three corner kicks. Despite the opportunities, neither team could break through before halftime.

The Seahawks continued creating chances after the break and finished the night with 13 shots.

On the other end, UNCW’s defense limited East Carolina to just three shots for the entire match. Caigan Leonard was among the Seahawks helping shut down the Pirates’ attack.

Despite UNCW controlling much of the offensive pressure, ECU’s defense kept the Seahawks off the scoreboard.

Neither side found the finishing touch over 90 minutes, sending the in-state matchup to a 0-0 final.

The draw keeps UNCW undefeated on the season as the Seahawks move to 3-0-3.
