CFPUA schedules boil water advisory for Lewis Creek area
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Public Utility Authority has scheduled a precautionary boil water advisory Tuesday, Sept. 8, for approximately 400 customers in the Lewis Creek and Lewis Landing Avenue area.
The advisory is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. while CFPUA crews perform a water main tie-in in the area. Customers may experience temporary disruptions to their water service while the work is underway.
The advisory applies to The Palisades at Lewis Creek community and addresses on:
- Lewis Landing Avenue
- Bratton Court
- Ballaster Drive
- Branch Row
- Creek Bend Terrace
- Runaway Bay
- Grey Cliff Run
- Killdeer Lane
- Oyster Reef Run
- Dove Shell Way
- Mangrove Place
CFPUA said periods of low or no pressure in the water distribution system can increase the potential for back siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into the water system.
While the advisory is in effect, customers should boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before consuming it. Customers can also use bottled water.
The advisory applies to water used for:
- Drinking
- Brushing teeth
- Making ice
- Food preparation
- Washing fruits and vegetables
- Giving water to pets
- Preparing baby formula
Customers do not need to boil water for showering or bathing.
CFPUA said laboratory staff will test the water before the advisory is lifted to ensure it is safe to drink.
The advisory will be updated once it has been lifted.
