West Columbus earns first win of season, beats West Bladen 36-16
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — West Columbus picked up its first win of the season Friday night, defeating West Bladen 36-16.
The Vikings struck first after quarterback D.J. Graham chased down a wild snap, recovered the ball and launched a 30-yard pass to Charlie McLeod. McLeod hauled it in and took it to the end zone for the touchdown, giving West Columbus a 6-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.
West Columbus added to its advantage when Graham handed the ball to Ouziyiah Reaves, who ran it in for his first touchdown as a Viking.
The Vikings went for two again, and this time Graham connected with Zaylon Freeman to make it 14-0.
West Columbus kept the pressure on from there and went on to secure the 36-16 victory.
The win carried added meaning for the Vikings, who were playing in honor of longtime coach Brandon Smith.
